The Creative Rhyming Dictionary

Here’s an interactive environment to help musician or, more specifically, lyricists come up with clever and unconventional rhymes.  Normally rhyme dictionaries aren’t helpful for writing songs.  They’re too short sighted.  This musicians resource is meant to be helpful and fun!

Come up with as many rhymes as you can!  If you use a rhyme from here in a song post a link to it!  All lyrics on this page “The Creative Rhyming Dictionary” are for anyone to use.  (This does NOT include lyrics of DoGooder songs or song produced by DoGooder Records)

So get creative with some rhymes.  I know it’s my favorite part of writing song.  Here’s an example of how creative you can get:

She claims I don’t accommodate her fetishes

And she hates the way I finish all her sentences

The love I get is like some kind of photosythesis

Ethereal and so surreal I don’t know where the center is

-Lost In The Kybosh, DoGooder 2003

Have fun everybody!  Post words you want people to rhyme and post rhymes for words in the forum!  Find the words rhymed so far go the top drop down menu under Creative Rhyming Dictionary

Today I will be doing: Consequences

    ..on the senses

    ..on the fence is..

    ..fond romances

    ..kind that quenches

    ..my descendants

    ..calm consesus

    ..lost apendage

    ..wrong revenge is..

    ..close percentage

There’s a few for now. If anyone has any good ones they would like to add I would greatly appreciate some more input!

Also if anyone maybe has some writers block on a particular rhyme scheme let me know and we’ll throw some ideas around. I’ll come up with some, someone else will come up with some, it’ll be great and clever.

If only I’d thought of this before Beyonce recorded Put A Ring On It

That’s right! Fucking Orange! There are tons of thing you can rhyme with orange for the purposes of music:

    Forage

    Storage

    Porridge

    Borin’

    Snorin’

Door hinge (by extending the consonant sounds out with more syllables makes you clever)

    Dalorean

    Form

    Warm

    Storm

    Born

    Norm

    Gorge

Even going beyond these examples, the “g” sound at the end can be rhymed with similar sounds such as “sh” or “t”

That’s all I’m give for now. I challenge you to post more orange rhymables

Here’s a good word that I’ve been hearing a lot lately so lets rhyme it.

    .. suspiciousness

    .. ridiculous

    .. ambivalence

    .. admits to it

    .. and misses it

    .. and this is it

    .. magnificent

    .. possesses us

    .. is limitless

    .. in listlessness

Notice how the rhymes don’t necessarily rhyme with each other. This “shaping” of the rhyme can be very useful. You can start with one word in a song that has, say, 4 lines in a row that rhyme, and shape the rhyme to be completely different by the end. Example:

So Bush was bad and Obama’s the Antithesis

Left or right and still the media possesses us

Left to fight through propaganda increasingly scandalous

Til we forget the part about pursuit of happiness

So that’s kinda American themed and me being Canadian. It’s not my fault The Daily Show is so great!

And maybe that’s also not the best example of “shaping” a rhyme but I think it’s pretty good for making it up on the spot. And you can see the importance of rhyming loosely to say what you want to say.
